Do you ever become weary with the state of our nation and world? I know that I do. Our governments are corrupt at best and downright evil at worst. All politicians lie. The wealthy grow wealthier, and everyone else stagnates or becomes poorer. Amid these truths, hope for world peace seems like an elusive dream.
BUT there is hope! This hope was prophesied thousands of years ago and was partially fulfilled with the birth of Christ. Isaiah prophesies, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called…Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6) Although the beginning of the verse came true more than two thousand years ago with the coming of the Messiah, Jesus, the rest of the verse still awaits that time when Jesus will reign as Prince of Peace.
May we remember that a king is the ruler of a kingdom, but that a prince is the leader of a principality. We know who is currently in charge of world governments. He was the one who offered Jesus “the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.” We are told to battle “principalities-powers-rulers of the darkness of this world-spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:12) Today’s lack of peace is due to the fact that current principalities are ruled by the rulers of darkness. BUT the truth is that this will not always be the case. One day, a new Prince will take the throne and share Who He is with the world.
So, how does this influence my own current personal peace? Knowing that the Prince of Peace, Jesus, will some day soon reclaim His principality eases my mind. My peace is a settled fact based on this solid promise of prophecy. The first half of the prophecy was fulfilled with the birth of Jesus. The second half WILL be fulfilled when Jesus, the Prince of Peace, will come to claim that which belongs to Him. My peace is founded in the Prince of Peace and His peaceful agenda.
