A Covenant of Peace

Not only is our society chaotic, and our culture crazy, but it seems that even our planet is up in arms, protesting its misuse and abuse. Yet despite the storms, earthquakes, tsunamis, and wildfires, God Himself is a constant, One that we can rest assured will always be the same.

One word from God affirms, “For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from you, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed.” (Isaiah 54:10) Just as humanity is under the curse of sin, the planet also feels the weight of this curse. One verse reminds us, “ -the whole creation groans and travails in pain-“ (Romans 8:22) And one day, the earth has been promised a complete overhaul.

Despite all the physical commotion of this planet, our lives can rest on two facets of God: His kindness and His peace. This peace is secured by a covenant, something even stronger than a promise, because its both formal and written. Despite the mountains departing and the hills being removed, we can rest on this contract of peace promised to us from God.

Once, the earth violently reacted to the curse of sin and destroyed humanity with a flood, but God gave hope through the peace of His rainbow covenant. And in the future, when the earth once more protests its abuse, we can settle our hearts on God’s kindness and His covenant of peace that was provided by the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus. Peace is a secure covenant.
