The Law is Light

Why do we often see commandments and laws as restrictive? We act as if these rules hem us in and stifle our individuality. But what if we were just viewing things from the wrong perspective?

“For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light…” (Proverbs 6:23) This proverb offers that commandments are lamps and laws are lights. What if submitting to rules offers freedom and not restriction?

What if I realize that laws act to protect me? What if the freedom from fear that comes as a result of obedience actually frees me in other areas of my life? What if I have the opportunity to be creative because submitting to rules remove danger and risk?

May I be eager to embrace commandments and laws as the lamps that light my life!
