Ever come upon a large, lit up city after a time of traveling through darkness? I have. After driving through the dark desert at night, our tour bus topped a ridge overlooking Riverside, California. The desert came to life with the light of that metropolis. And much of this light is powered by wind turbines.
But I know of a city with an independent light Source. Revelation 21:23 declares, “And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light of it.” This city is known as the heavenly city, or the New Jerusalem, or the city of God.
No wind turbines or fossil fuels or nuclear energy is needed for this city to stay lit up. Why? Because the glory of God, and the light of the Lamb, Jesus, are the light. God is light. His city is light. And we have hope in our future home in this well-lit City.
