We’ve explored this idea before. Making a step toward a new us often begins with a rejection of the old us. And a great example of this process is often found in the history of the nation of Israel.
“Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, everyone according to his ways, says the Lord GOD. “Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin. Cast away all your transgressions…” (Ezekiel 18:30,31a) The transformation of Israel began with a 3-step rejection of her old ways and habits.
Repent: change your mind.
Turn away: change your position.
Cast away: be forceful and decisive.
May we be courageous enough to adhere to these steps when we’re trying to leave behind the old.
