Congo Crisis Entry 3
Alessandra shared with her brother and the rest of her family about her offer to go on a short-term mission trip to the Democratic Republic of the Congo to visit friends stationed there. Her dad, Jim, thought it was a great idea. Younger stepsister, Julia, was envious and longed to join her. Daniel worried for her safety. And her stepmom, Kay, shared something that Alessandra never knew.
While her dad was saying how Alessandra’s mom had left a small legacy for her daughter to travel, Kay broke in to say, “I’m not sure if I ever told you that your mother and I were best friends throughout college; we even roomed together two years. Carol had a profound interest in missions herself and was sorry she did not take a trip like this before she married your dad. It doesn’t surprise me that she set aside money for you to travel. The fact that your Heavenly Father provided for this trip years ago is an indicator that He approves. Where God guides, He provides, you know.”
Philippians 4:19 encourages, “But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” In context, Philippians 4 speaks of the value of contentment, giving and receiving, and missions. God always desires to see the gospel of His dear Son promoted. He provides our needs as we care for the needs of the gospel. Take courage! Step out! Venture forth for God!
