What an odd prophetic truth, “He that by usury and unjust gain increases his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.” (Proverbs 28:8) Often prophecy is found in psalms and the major and minor prophets of the Scripture, but this one is tucked neatly into a Proverb chapter that focuses on the running of governments.
This world is full of corrupt politicians, people who use trickery to rob the taxpayer for their own greedy gain. They spout axioms they don’t follow and demand the submission of the working man to this evil program. But this verse suggest that ultimate, poetic justice will be realized when those ill-gotten gains are handed over to the man who loves the poor, someone trusted to disperse the funds where they will do the most benefit. Now…that’s a prophecy I can get behind. Have hope, poor friends, God’s in the equalizing business!
